Senior / Lead Analyst - Thematic & Sustainable Equities (Fuji)

The Opportunity

We are looking for seasoned analysts to work with the Sustainable investment research (equity) team of one of our global AM clients, renowned for its differentiated and thought provoking research practices. This role is the closest alternative to front-end buy-side work:

  • Identify investments that can contribute to positive environmental and social outcomes while generating profits as well and present them to portfolio managers
  • Develop an understanding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and where the best opportunities for private capital resides
  • Move up a steep learning curve - high degree of ownership and independence in evaluating underlying equities and recommending trade ideas
  • Directly interact with management team of companies to accelerate your understanding on company/sector
  • Get an opportunity to travel onsite and work closely with the onshore team and understand/experience the investment decision making process

Role Description

The broad spectrum of work may include the following:

  • Analysis of publicly-traded companies from both a fundamental research and a thematic research standpoint
  • Contribute to original research to help guide the client’s investment strategy and grow AUM
  • Perform initial due diligence on companies (across sectors / geographies) identified through the client’s research process (aligned with UN SDGs) which includes  
    • Develop summary financial models with key drivers identified
    • Identify key research issues (psitive and negative)
    • Assess the ESG practices and risks
    • Recommend whether company merits further due diligence for portfolio consideration
  • For the research theme being focused on by the client, conduct original thematic research
    • Identify research issues and determine how the various players in that value chain are impacted by them
    • Identify relevant investment candidates for a given theme
    • Contribute to the development of marketing collateral
  • Help analyze and prepare thoughtful answers to occasional ad hoc client requests on thematic topics or companies

Preferred Background

  • Strong academic credentials, an MBA or comparable degree such as Bachelors / Masters in a related field of study
  • Work experience: 2-8 years (Prior experience in strategy consulting, equity research, sustainable & responsible investing, UN SDGs or related areas would be preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg is preferred

The candidate should have strong communication (written and oral) skills and be familiar with reading financial statements, independent and have a decisive mindset, have the ability to think out of the box, intellectual curiosity and an interest in sustainable investing.
